The Executive Committee

The SCR Executive Committee is responsible for the general running of the SCR. Below are the Executive Officers who constitute the Executive Committee.

Prof Alan Martin FRS

Position: President

Alan has been a member of the SCR since 1964 and, though he has reached the University retiring age, he still undertakes research and postgraduate teaching in the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology (IPPP), and undergraduate teaching in the Department of Physics. Robin, his wife, is a musician and teaches the classical guitar and the lute.

Dr Peter Swift MInstP

Position: Treasurer

Peter is an RA in the School of Engineering. His research interests lie in the terahertz region of the Electromagnetic Spectrum. Peter is a keen musician: conducting the College Choir; is sub-organist of St. Chad's College; and sings in various choirs. He is also the SCR Treasurer and a College Tutor here at Grey.

Prof Stewart Clark

Position: Wine Steward

I lecture and research in Physics (computational quantum mechanics and mathematical physics). However in the SCR I am a member of the Exec Committee and I have the pleasure of looking after the wine.

Mr Foster Neville

Position: Entertainments & Activities Secretary

Foster has been an active member of the SCR for ten years and a College Tutor for almost as long. Away from Durham Foster is Chairman of The Society for Italic Handwriting, a long-established charity promoting the study and practice of this historic hand. Foster is also the author of a book on handwriting and a radio play.

Position: SCR Host

Joined the University in 1958, and now risen to the dizzy heights of SCR Host.

Mr Richard Hilton MBCS, MIET

Position: Website Editor

Richard is a self-employed website developer. In his "spare" time he fulfils manifold and sundry duties at Durham Cathedral (primarily as a Verger) and in his spare-spare time is a college tutor.
