The Executive Committee

The SCR Executive Committee is responsible for the general running of the SCR. Below are the Executive Officers who constitute the Executive Committee.

Prof Alan Martin FRS

Position: President

Alan has been a member of the SCR since 1964 and, though he has reached the University retiring age, he still undertakes research and postgraduate teaching in the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology (IPPP), and undergraduate teaching in the Department of Physics.

Dr Peter Swift MInstP FHEA

Position: Treasurer & Membership

Peter is Vice-Master of Grey, and Assistant Professor (Teaching) in Physics. He is also the SCR Treasurer here at Grey. Peter is a keen musician, enjoying singing and is College Organist at St. Chad's. He plays cricket for Durham City, captain their second team, as well as the University Staff.

Mr David Clark MEng, MIET

Position: Secretary

David is Senior Research and Development Engineer at Stephenson Gobin Geofire, developing products that incorporate wireless technology to be sold into the fire industry. He is a College tutor, and was an active member of the MCR for many years before becoming more full time in the SCR as Secretary.

Prof Stewart Clark

Position: Wine Steward

Stewart lectures and researches in Physics (computational quantum mechanics and mathematical physics). However in the SCR he is a member of the Exec Committee and has the pleasure of looking after the wine.

Mr Bill Best CPhys, BSc,DipEd,MInstP,MIOA

Position: SCR Host

Joined the University in 1958, and now risen to the dizzy heights of SCR Host.

Mr Richard Hilton BSc (Hons) Dunelm, MIET

Position: Website Editor

Richard is a self-employed website developer. In his "spare" time he fulfils manifold and sundry duties at Durham Cathedral (primarily as a Verger) and in his spare-spare time is a college tutor.
